11: Saguaro National Park, Arizona
Saguaro National Park, nestled in the heart of Arizona, is a truly unique destination that offers an unforgettable experience, especially for a girls trip. The park, split into two districts, East and West, is home to the nation’s largest cacti – the majestic saguaros.
These towering giants, which can reach heights of up to 50 feet, are a sight to behold. My best friend Brittany and I had the pleasure of visiting the park when the saguaros were in full bloom, a spectacle that added a magical touch to the already stunning desert landscape. The sight of these massive cacti adorned with white flowers under the clear Arizona sky is something that will stay with us forever.
But the allure of Saguaro National Park extends beyond its natural beauty. After spending our day marveling at the saguaros and exploring the park’s numerous hiking trails, Brittany and I headed into Tucson, the city that embraces the park. Tucson is a treasure trove for thrift shopping enthusiasts like us. The city’s vibrant thrift scene offered us a fun and eclectic shopping experience, where we found everything from vintage clothing to unique southwestern trinkets.
Getting There
Saguaro National Park is split into two districts, East and West, both located in Tucson, Arizona. The Tucson International Airport is the closest airport, about 15 miles from the park. If you’re driving, you can reach the park via Interstate 10 and 19. The East District is accessible via Old Spanish Trail and the West District via North Kinney Road. Remember, it takes about 30-60 minutes to transit between the two districts, so plan accordingly.

For a true outdoor experience, consider camping at the park. Saguaro National Park offers year-round camping at the Gilbert Ray Campground, located in the Tucson Mountain District (West). Sites are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, so make sure to get there early.

If you’re driving, you’ll find Door County on the eastern side of Wisconsin, nestled between Green Bay and Lake Michigan. It’s about a 3-hour drive from Milwaukee and 4.5 hours from Chicago. So, pack your favorite road trip snacks and get ready for some beautiful views!

From there, you can rent a car and enjoy the drive. The park is accessible via four entrances, but the Front Royal entrance near Rt. 66 and 340 is the most popular. Just plug it into your GPS and you’re good to go!

There’s also an alternate route where you continue on I-95 north to Bangor, Maine, then take Route 1A east to Ellsworth. In Ellsworth, take Route 3 to Mount Desert Island. If you’re heading to the Schoodic Peninsula, you’ll take a slightly different route, but it’s all detailed on the official park website.
If you’re flying, there are direct flights from Boston’s Logan Airport to the Hancock County Airport, which is just 10 miles from the park. You can also fly into Bangor International Airport, which is about an hour from the park. Car rentals are available at both airports.

Key West, the southernmost point in the United States, is a tropical paradise that’s perfect for a girls trip. With its laid-back vibe, vibrant nightlife, and stunning natural beauty, it’s a place where you can relax on the beach, explore unique local shops, and enjoy the freshest seafood.
When I lived in Miami, I ventured down to Key West alll the time. I even road my bike there once! (and made my boyfriend at the time come pick me up instead of riding back)
Getting There
Technically, Key West is accessible by plane, with the Key West International Airport offering flights from major cities. If you’re up for a scenic drive (DO IT), consider renting a car and taking the iconic Overseas Highway, which offers breathtaking views of the Florida Keys. In my opinion, the scenic drive is half the fun.

18: Charleston, South Carolina
Charleston, South Carolina is a gem of the South, known for its blend of history, culture, and charm that makes it a perfect destination for a girls trip. It’s one of those Notebook type settings that makes everything feel romantic and girly, no matter what you’re actually doing there.

Charleston is a southern city serviced by Charleston International Airport (CHS), which offers direct flights from many major cities. If you’re driving, it’s conveniently located on the coast of South Carolina, making it easily accessible from many parts of the Eastern US.

The park offers a variety of activities such as hiking, birdwatching, fishing, and canoeing, ensuring there’s something for everyone in your group. The park’s serene environment is perfect for bonding and creating unforgettable memories.
Getting There
The closest major airport to Congaree National Park is in Columbia, South Carolina, which is about a 30-minute drive away. Alternatively, you can fly into Charlotte Douglass International Airport in North Carolina and drive for about 2 hours to reach the park.

The best time to visit is in the spring and fall when temperatures are warm and mosquitoes are low. If you’re a birdwatcher, the Kingsnake Trail is recommended as it passes through sloughs of tupelo and cypress trees and runs along part of Cedar Creek. If you’re visiting as part of a bigger road trip, there are several nearby destinations worth exploring, including Charleston, Myrtle Beach, and Asheville.
20: Mammoth Cave National Park, Kentucky

As the world’s longest known cave system, it offers an array of exciting activities that will make your trip memorable. - The cave’s temperature averages a cool 54 degrees year-round, so bring an extra layer of clothing for your tour.
- Get out on the trails early in the day to view wildlife, wildflowers, and scenic views.
- If you’re planning to paddle or fish on the Green and Nolin Rivers, try to do so on weekdays to avoid congestion at the river access points.

Remember, the park is open 24 hours a day, so you can arrive at any time that suits your itinerary.

22: Chugach National Forest, Alaska
Chugach National Forest in Alaska is a nature lover’s paradise and a perfect destination for a girls trip if you’re looking for adventure and tranquility. This second-largest national forest in the U.S. offers a unique blend of forests, rivers, lakes, mountains, and glaciers. It’s a place where you can disconnect from the hustle and bustle of city life and reconnect with nature and each other.

Boat cruises are available in Whittier and Valdez to see tidewater glaciers and other parts of the national forest in Prince William Sound.
